The above two images are the covers of the graphic diaries I kept during my junior year abroad in Bologna, Italy in 1988 and from 1989-1990 when I lived in Rome after I graduated. I used crayons and colored pencils to illustrate the turmoil I was going through as a result of having fallen in love with an Italian Olympic swimmer in Bologna and then an underwater photographer in Rome who worked for Jacques Cousteau. Neither reciprocated the depth of the feelings that I felt. Click on either cover to view the corresponding images. These are my only graphic diaries. After I left Italy I never drew again.
