Swaziland: Gone Rural Bomake
I met the director of Gone Rural boMake, a non-profit organization which supports artisans in Swaziland, at the Global Philanthropy Forum in 2008. I asked her what her greatest challenges were and she said that if the women spent less time fetching water, they would have more time to produce handicrafts thereby generating more income for their families. In 2007, I had been to Cooper-Hewitt's exhibition called Design for The Other 90% and bought the catalogue. I learned about the tire-shaped water transportation systems called Q Drums.
