Discovering Ganesh continued
studio walls when I first began my practice. I walked into the store so I could look through the book because I was curious to find out what a statue of Ganesh was doing in the water. I don't remember if the introduction actually explained much about the cover photo but the image stuck with me for years. When I finally decided to travel to India I went with the purpose of discovering what the Ganesh festival was all about.

Project Description

Discovering Ganesh is a project that includes a multimedia exhibition, a high-end photography book, and an educational website. Each element of Discovering Ganesh offers a different way to learn about one of India's most

intriguing deities. Revered for millennia as the Remover of Obstacles, the Lord of Beginnings and the Patron of the Arts, Ganesh is one of India's most beloved Hindu Gods and a ubiquitous presence in Indian art, philosophy and ritual.

Discovering Ganesh provides a rich, multimedia platform from which people may discover and appreciate the cultural, historical and spiritual aspects of India using Ganesh as their entry point. However, this project is not solely about India – through participation in the exhibit, viewers will discover how Indian culture reflects profound and universal values. The goal of Discovering Ganesh is to shed light on these universal values; that is the ultimate "discovery."

The exhibit simultaneously explores the significance of Ganesh and his place in the Hindu pantheon of deities, while encouraging viewers to ponder what their life would look like if it were free of obstacles.

What I Learned From This Project
