Discovering Ganesh continued

overcome to complete Discovering Ganesh. One year my electronic flash fell into the Arabian Sea at dusk before completing pictures of the final day of the festival when all of the huge Ganesh statues from 6 – 35 feet high are immersed; another year I dropped a key lens in a toilet in South India when photographing the festival in Tamil Nadu; yet another year I contracted chikungunya, a virus transmitted by mosquitoes which manifests like advanced arthritis, and I didn't come back with the needed pictures to complete the project – plus I was incapacitated for 6 months. I hit a huge brick wall in August of 2007, when I learned that the Rubin Museum had decided to drop the show due to the departure of both the show's curator and the museum's director. This blow was a huge disappointment, but I pressed on. How could I give up, when I was working on a project about a God who removes obstacles! From March to September 2009, Discovering Ganesh was exhibited at the Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena, California.
